A few months ago I was waiting for a sign-in code, flipping between 5 Gmail tabs trying to find which inbox it landed in. By the time I found it, the code had expired. That was the moment I decided to fix this for myself.

I tried the notifiers in the Chrome Web Store first. They pinged me for every promo, looked dated, some wanted a subscription, and a few had simply stopped working. The rest wanted my mail on their server.

Then I asked people what they actually need. It was always the same four things: glance at new mail fast, grab sign-in codes, get pinged rarely, and never miss the one email that matters. None of that needs another native desktop app. It fits in the browser you already have open.

So I built Peekat, a small toolbar extension that stays quiet until something actually matters.
