The side-card layout is honestly such a simple fix for something that's bugged me forever — way easier to read than random highlight boxes. Tried it on a contract and the AI review was genuinely useful, not just generic fluff.
@milo_hamlet Thanks Aaron! Really glad the side-card layout clicked — that redesign took us a few iterations to get right, so hearing it actually helps on a real contract (not just generic fluff) means a lot 🙏
Speaking of contracts — since you're using it to annotate them, you should know we now also support full contract review. We've built coverage across tens of thousands of regulations spanning China, the EU, and the US, so it can flag clauses that may violate relevant laws in those jurisdictions. Worth a try on the same doc.
We've also been expanding the core PDF tooling and AI review lately — longer docs, more contract-specific suggestions, and better annotation flows. If you've got more PDFs to throw at it, we'd love the continued feedback.
And if you know anyone else drowning in contracts or long docs, feel free to share the launch — they'll get a 7-day membership on us 🙌
Big update since our launch — here's what's new 🚀
When we first launched on PH, PDFnoted was mostly basic PDF tools (merge, split, convert), annotation, and a simple AI helper. A lot has changed since then — here's the rundown:
🧰 Toolbox grew from a handful of tools to 23
Beyond the basics, we've added OCR (scan to searchable PDF), Bates numbering for legal docs, PDF diff/compare for contract revisions, AI smart redaction (auto-mask IDs, phone numbers, emails), e-signature, PDF-to-Markdown, and a whole lot more. Everything runs locally in your browser — zero file uploads.
✍️ Full WYSIWYG editor, not just annotation
You can now click any text in a PDF and edit it directly. Insert images, add new text blocks, or use AI to polish, proofread, and translate — all in-browser, WYSIWYG.
⚖️ Compliance Workbench — the biggest one
This is brand new. We've built an AI compliance review engine that cross-checks your contracts against 174 regulations across 11 industries, covering China, the EU, and the US. Upload a contract and it flags clauses that may violate relevant laws. It's the feature we're most excited about.

We'd love for the PH community to give the new stuff a spin — especially the compliance engine. Feedback from early users here has been incredibly helpful in shaping the roadmap. Keep it coming 🙏
And as always — share it with someone who'd find it useful, and they get a 7-day membership on us.
The story first: I originally built PDFnoted as a PDF annotation tool — the side-card layout that a user from our first PH launch reviewed favorably. Then that same user sent me a 40-page vendor contract and asked: "Can it tell me which clauses are risky?"
I spent a week trying every AI contract review tool I could find. Two things bothered me: too many citations didn't check out when I verified them, and there was no way to verify the ones that did. So we rebuilt the product around one rule:
Every finding must be anchored to a named law and a specific article number — checkable in one click.
What PDFnoted does today:
Compliance review — upload a contract, get clause-level findings with candidate authorities from China, the EU and the US. Each finding shows the exact regulation and article, so you can verify before you trust it.
Local-first toolbox — 24 PDF tools (remove watermark, AI redaction, OCR, compare, Bates numbering, flatten). Core tools run entirely in your browser and never upload your file; AI features process in the cloud only when you click them, and we tell you which is which before you run anything.
Review to delivery in one place — annotate with side cards, redact sensitive fields, flatten, export a clean print-ready PDF. No tool-hopping.
Free tier: 3 AI reviews/day, unlimited local tools, no credit card. The PH community gets 14 days of Pro (normally 7) — just sign up this week.
One question I'd genuinely love feedback on: we're weighing a public API for the compliance check — search regulations programmatically and get anchored findings back. Would you use that, or is in-app enough for your workflow?
