I built PDFb2 because I got tired of the cognitive dissonance. Every time I needed to merge a PDF or compress a contract, I would open one of the popular online tools, hover over the upload button, and think: "Should I really be uploading this?" Usually the answer was no. But the alternative was paying for Adobe or installing some desktop app I would use twice a month. So I built the thing I wanted: a full set of PDF tools that process everything locally in the browser. No upload, no server, no "trust us, we delete it." The file physically cannot leave your device because the code runs in your browser tab — there is no server endpoint to receive it. The technical approach is straightforward: pdf-lib and PDF.js handle the heavy lifting in JavaScript. Next.js serves the app. Your CPU does the work. That is it.
