Hey Everyone! 👋 I'm Ocat, a solo indie maker building small tools out of Jakarta. Patternion is my second launch here after type-motion (a kinetic typography tool) — and this one actually started as a spin-off idea from that project. While building type-motion, I kept running into the same problem myself: I needed seamless background patterns for social content, and every tool I tried was either built for textile/print production (expensive, overkill) or just... static. If I wanted a moving pattern for a reel background, I'd have to hand-animate it myself in After Effects. So Patternion started with a simple question: what if generating a pattern and turning it into motion could both happen in the same place, in seconds, for free? The scope changed a lot along the way. I originally planned way fewer layout presets, but once I started sketching them out, it felt wrong to ship with an incomplete set — so it grew to 20+ (grid, radial, organic, and more). The motion layer came later too; I built the static generator first to validate the core idea before adding animation on top. This is a free tool, no catch — I'm sharing it because I use it myself and figured other creators, designers, and marketers might find it useful too.
