Hi Product Hunt! I built Parroting because I dictate a lot, and two things kept biting me: transcripts full of "uh, so, no wait", and messages that came out blunter than I meant.
On Mac (free, no account):
Hold a shortcut, speak, release. The text is pasted where your cursor is, in any app. Speech is recognized on your Mac with local models, so your voice isn't uploaded.
Before you send, a small tone model on your Mac flags messages that sound harsh, passive-aggressive or too casual for where you're typing. No API key, nothing sent. If a hint is wrong, mark it, and you can train a personal layer on your own Mac and roll it back anytime.
Optional AI cleanup and rewrite formats (email, list, translate) with an AI service you pick and your own key, or Apple Intelligence.
New this week: Parroting for iPhone. It's a keyboard, so it works anywhere you can type (Messages, Mail, WhatsApp, Slack). Tap the mic, talk, then tap "Done" to paste what you said, or the colored button to tidy it into your chosen style first: filler words out, mid-sentence changes resolved, an email with greeting and sign-off, or a numbered list. You can also select text and adjust it with four sliders (length, formality, tone, lists) or translate it.
It's US$4.99 once, with updates included. No subscription, no account, no ads or tracking. Speech is recognized on the iPhone and recordings aren't saved. For AI you choose Apple's built-in model (free, text stays on the phone) or your own API key. With iCloud on, your dictionary, rewrite styles and history are shared between Mac and iPhone.
I'd love to hear where the tone hints feel wrong for you, and what rewrite style you'd add first.
