Give it an item's dimensions and weight. It works out how many fit in a master carton, how those cartons stack on a pallet, and whether a person can actually lift the result - checking every sane carton size and layer pattern instead of guessing. The packing logic is checked against brute-force search on ~1,000 test cases.
