Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Tristan, the maker of Ownvox. This started from a simple frustration: voice is the fastest way to get thoughts out of my head, but every dictation tool I tried either sent my voice to the cloud or only worked inside a single app. I just wanted to talk into whatever I was already using, without giving up control of my data. So that's what Ownvox does. You press a shortcut, speak, and the text lands right at your cursor in any app: ChatGPT, Mail, Slack, your editor. Transcription runs locally (Parakeet and Whisper), so by default your voice never leaves your device. There's one toggle for fully offline, or an EU cloud mode when you want more power, and it stays GDPR compliant either way. Along the way it grew from "just dictation" into three things in one: dictation, voice prompts to AI, and AI Skills that rewrite selected text in place, like cleanups, summaries, formatting, or your own prompt chains.
