Overline is a Chrome extension that adds real-time AI captions and live translation on top of any browser video, no subtitles needed, no tab switching. Works on YouTube, Netflix, Twitch, Zoom, or any tab. Sub-second latency. Translation is optional and per-session. No page injection, no file uploads, pure live audio streaming.

Real use case for this - built an AI film for a product called Dreams of Yesterday that deliberately has no subtitles during a key flashback sequence. The decision was intentional — wanted the disorientation. But for accessibility and multilingual families watching together, real-time captions without modifying the video file would be exactly right. Curious how Overline handles videos with mixed dialogue and silence — does caption accuracy drop when audio is sparse or ambient rather than continuous speech?

@joe_rucker That's an interesting use case. I haven't tested Overline when there is a lot of silence gap or ambient sounds. Basically, the uses case that I have in mind, is for real-time translation of videos like news clips, or events where someone is speaking, or for language leaners who need translation for videos in different language.
Interesting extension. It works) But when watching a movie there is a delay of a second or two. This needs to be worked on. I would also recommend that you remove the background of the subtitles so that only the letters are visible. And you need to add the Ukrainian language. The idea is working and very good. I wish you development and success.

@vadym_cherkavskyi Thank you for the feedback. The delay is also dependent on the internet connection of the user. but overall, there is around 1s delay, because it needs to transcribe and then an LLM to translate. I've been trying to reduce the delay, hopefully I can bring it down. I'll add the Ukranian language, but i have a question: Do you need to translate from other languages to Ukrainian or from Ukrainian to other languages?
@ma1ms Thank you for your answer. It is imperative that there be a translation from English to Ukrainian and from Ukrainian to English. Likewise, other common idioms should be translated into Ukrainian and Ukrainian should be translated into these same languages. This will be very useful for both Ukraine and the world. Thank you for your work.

@vadym_cherkavskyi Thanks for the response. From English to Ukrainian could be quickly done, but not the opposite, since I have to find a good model in Ukrainian.
I will add Ukrainian (as the target language from other languages) in the next major update.

Sub-second latency on live audio streaming through a browser extension — that's a bold claim and I'm skeptical of what 'sub-second' means in practice over a real connection. Is the audio processing happening locally on your extension or does it stream to a server for transcription? If it's server-side, what's the actual end-to-end latency on a Zoom call with heavy audio?

@sounak_bhattacharya good question. I am processing the audio on the server. and honestly, it's quite fast especially if the audio language is english. If in a different language, then there is a slight delay around 1s.
It's similar for Zoom audio.
