Our Many Names is a family tree web application with focus on emotional ties rather than getting boxed into traditional bloodlines. We also have a robust testimonial feature to collect stories and anecdotes of loved ones who are no more. We want family trees that tell stories of our ancestors, and not merely building timelines.
I started building this because I wanted a family tree that had stories of my grandparents that I could share with my kids. And then, I figured my cousins would also have interesting stories about them - whence the collaborative part became part of the picture. I ended with a huge family tree with 3rd degree cousins and it was an absolutely amazing experience to reconnect with family while discussing, well, family.
I figured that I did not have to be the only to experience this. So, in came my co-founder, and we took it public. It will always be free with no subscription fees, but we kept paid features for power users that want to build monster trees or host their whole family albums on our servers.
So, feel free to make the most of it. Nothing would make us happier than seeing the app put to good use. Feedback is most welcomed.
