The cost-of-living index industry runs on averaged guesses wrapped in banner ads. We built the alternative: real-time NYC-anchored coefficients, derived data, zero crowdsourcing. Orbicost is the mathematical standard Numbeo and Nomad List never became. Premium advertising only — curated, not auctioned. Launch Comparison Sandbox is live. Come with hard numbers.

I built Orbicost because I got tired of making serious relocation and financial decisions based on averaged guesses from random internet submissions.
While Numbeo, Expatistan, and even modern Nomad List still rely on crowdsourced data (with all the noise, tourist bias, and lag that comes with it), Orbicost does the opposite:
Real-time NYC-anchored coefficient model (not absolute crowdsourced numbers)
Derived data only: official grid rates for utilities, modal-split transport costs, rental yield indices for housing
Continuous recalibration when inflation moves — no waiting for new user submissions
Zero crowdsourcing. Pure math.
The Comparison Sandbox is live right now. Throw in cities you actually know and see how we stack up. I genuinely want the hard critiques — especially from people who’ve lived in these places.
Premium advertising exists but it’s strictly curated (no banner trash around the data).
This is the cost-of-living index the industry should have built years ago.
Would love your thoughts, numbers, and pushback.
