Opkit (YC S21) is an automated health insurance verification platform. Our software helps healthcare providers efficiently collect, verify and track their patients' insurance.
This is a great solution for telehealth companies! Our software makes it easy to collect, verify and track patients' health insurance which will help reduce costs and improve patient care.
@zain_sheikh Thanks Zain! There's been an explosion of telehealth and virtual care companies since COVID, but these companies are forced to use tools that were designed for traditional, brick-and-mortar providers. That's what led us to build Opkit - a digitally-native solution for insurance verification!
Congrats on the launch of Opkit, which offers telemedicine providers a cutting-edge, effective method to confirm and handle patient insurance! I'm interested in learning how it improves patient care.
@mian_azan Mian, you're alluding to a really important problem - it's called "deferred care".
TLDR - Americans often avoid going to the doctor because it is expensive, and a chore. Unfortunately, this can have really negative health consequences, because we aren't doing all of the things we should be doing to prevent more serious illnesses.
I believe Opkit will help eliminate deferred care by taking the confusion and frustration out of using your health insurance!

Congrats! You’re solving a really important problem in healthcare. The growth of digital health solutions has been phenomenal but unlocking insurance coverage is not only important to expand patient access but also to develop sustainable businesses.
@hnelias Thank you so much Hani! We really appreciate your tireless support and your shared vision. I totally agree - it's critical that digital health companies start participating in insurance if they want to be successful in the long-term!

Congratulations on the launch! I really like that an API is also available. It definitely allows for a lot of flexibility whether you are a small telehealth company or a large one that needs to integrate with a lot of different services.
@hye_sun_yun Appreciate your input Hye Sun! The API is definitely one of my favorite parts about the platform. As a developer, I'm excited to see what other software engineers build when they get access to insurance verification capabilities.
Anyways, a modern, well-documented API is a must-have feature for tech companies of any kind, and telehealth companies are no exception!
This is great! At my last startup we had to integrate with traditional insurance eligibility “APIs”—they were terrible. Text-based format, poor documentation, no error codes. There’s clearly a need for Stripe for healthcare, and I’m glad Opkit is here to build it.
@bballinger This sounds about right. When we started Opkit, I was shocked by how bad health insurance APIs are. We definitely want to bring a better developer experience to the healthcare space.

@shcallaway@justin_ko Congrats on the launch this is a great product! I'm curious if tools like this will motivate traditional practice providers to have a more tech-forward approach to healthcare in the close future.
@justin_ko@oscar__martinez Good question Oscar!
I think, in addition to the "digital health boom" that we've seen over the last for years, there's an overall trend towards modernization within traditional medical practices. The software these practices are currently using was built in the mid- and late-2000s. It's usually on-prem and extremely clunky to use. ("Provider burnout" is a big problem in the industry caused by legacy EMRs.) This software also doesn't have APIs, so it can't be extended by developers or integrated with other apps.
Opkit is an updated solution that addresses these problems.
