Hey Product Hunt 👋, I’m Jeson Lee, really excited to share OpenMeal with you 🎉 ! Coming from an immigrant family, I vividly remember skipping meals and saving up to go to various local Asian restaurants throughout my childhood. Stricken by xenophobia, Oakland and San Francisco’s Chinatown restaurants are reporting that their businesses have declined by 50% or more. On the other hand, food banks are being overwhelmed with millions of Americans left unemployed and devastated by layoffs. These are hard times. But they can also be a time of hope when we choose to work together. OpenMeal backs local businesses and individuals affected by COVID-19. Our goal is to aid those who are financially affected by COVID through free meals for people in need and bringing back business to restaurants in need of customers🍴. Each diner gets $20/week of meal credits to claim in our partnered restaurants! OpenMeal started in the San Francisco Bay Area and has already helped to connect individuals facing food insecurity as well as restaurants facing closure. Since our launch in April, we’ve served communities in the SF Bay Area and recently expanded to 5 cities including the Bay Area, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. We’re excited to broaden our efforts on the East Coast and serve the NYC area. As of launch, OpenMeal has garnered over $10,000 in funding and has served over 800 meals to over 100 diners. 🎊 Your feedback and support will help OpenMeal scale and reach more communities, helping to connect a wider variety of businesses and diners, and continue to make positive impacts in communities across the country.
