OpenLib is a small community-driven platform for discovering free and open-source software. It currently features a growing collection of apps with basic info like screenshots, repo links, install methods, and simple comparisons. It’s still early, and the goal is to slowly grow it with community contributions and feedback.

OpenLib started because finding trustworthy open-source alternatives was harder than it should be. Information was scattered across GitHub, blogs, Reddit, and dozens of directories, making it difficult to compare apps or verify whether a project was actively maintained.
Instead of creating another software list, I built a community-driven library focused entirely on free and open-source software. Every app includes screenshots, repository links, installation methods, metadata, categories, alternatives, and community contributions. Users can submit new apps, suggest edits, claim ownership of projects, report issues, and help improve the catalog.
Technically, OpenLib is built with Vanilla JavaScript, Firebase, Cloud Functions, and Firestore. It includes SEO-friendly prerendering, moderation workflows, contributor roles, bookmarks, organizations, reviews, and a growing collection of open-source software.
This is just the beginning. Feedback, bug reports, feature requests, and contributions are all welcome.
