GhostShell is an AI terminal for macOS that can chat, use tools, remember you across sessions, and wake itself up with heartbeat tasks. It supports local and cloud models, voice calls, and a file-backed personality that evolves over time.
Hi Product Hunt! I’m James, the maker of GhostShell.
I built GhostShell because most AI apps still feel stateless: you open a chat, ask something, and the relationship resets. I wanted an AI that lives on my Mac like a real presence: it remembers context, has its own ongoing state, can use tools, and can even wake itself up to follow up on things.
What makes GhostShell different:
- Mac-native AI terminal, not a browser wrapper
- Persistent memory and file-backed persona
- Heartbeat mode for proactive follow-ups and self-maintenance
- Tool calling on your Mac
- Local + cloud model support
- Realtime voice conversations
I’ve also been exploring a bigger idea: what if an agent had not just memory, but personality, mood, boundaries, and a sense of continuity over time?
Would love your feedback on:
1. Which part feels most interesting: terminal, memory, voice, or the “AI with soul” idea?
2. What would make you trust an AI assistant enough to keep it running on your computer?
Happy to answer anything in the comments today.
