Hi, I'm Luke — I built OnceUponaBookshelf because I wanted a bedtime story app that could be personal — a child's own name, age and interests — without needing to send any of that to a cloud server to make it happen. Most AI story apps work the same way under the hood: everything you type gets sent off to a company's servers. OnceUponaBookshelf tries to write every story on-device first, using Apple's on-device model running locally on the phone — so a story about your child can be generated without your child's details ever leaving the device. On older phones that can't run the on-device model, it falls back to the cloud with your permission, and we keep nothing either way. Stories can be narrated aloud in a warm, professional storyteller voice too (we tried a parent's-own-voice feature early on, but the quality wasn't consistent enough for bedtime, so we cut it). No accounts, no ads, no tracking — just a form, a story, and a shelf that remembers what your child has read.
