Hi Product Hunt. I'm Steven, and I started building Okra for Mac a year go.
I applied two constraints to Okra:
Offline model first - My documents are simple or common enough to optimize for privacy rather than more accuracy. I want to avoid uploading my documents, and if I have to send it to a provider, it should be directly to a model provider instead of through an app that indirectly uploads them to another AI provider.
Agent friendly, but no-code setup - I expose the okra cli so agents can access the processed files, but leave the setup as no-code. This hopefully makes it as easy as opening the Preview app on Mac. No-code is important because I want to defer involving agents until the I have parsed and redacted the documents.
What it does:
• Drop in a document. It stays where it is. The built-in OCR reads plain text. The layout models (Dots OCR 1.5, Unlimited-OCR) come with bounding boxes for tables and headings. Models you run in Ollama work too, through Settings. Each one runs on your machine.
• Click any extracted block and Okra shows you where it is on the page. This is the part I use most: check a number against its source page in one click.
• Need to share it? Redact first. Okra finds the names, account numbers, and addresses, and you approve each one. The redacted copy is a new file. The original does not change.
• Export Markdown, JSON, or CSV.
