AI writes your firmware. Your PCB and enclosure are still done by hand. Odem closes that gap. Describe a device and one agent picks real parts, draws the schematic, lays out and routes the board in real KiCad, models a 3D-printable enclosure around the actual PCB, and writes firmware that builds. It runs ERC, DRC and fit checks, then exports Gerbers, BOM, STEP and STL. No mockups. Real, editable engineering files.
I build embedded projects for fun. LLMs made my firmware a lot faster, but every schematic, board layout and enclosure was still done by hand, and keeping all three in sync was the part that took the longest.
So I built Odem: a desktop IDE where one agent works across electronics, mechanical and firmware in the same project.
In the video I asked for a USB-C desk clock with an 8×8 RGB LED matrix, an ESP32-C3, an ambient light sensor and two buttons. Odem picked the parts, drew the schematic, placed and routed the board in KiCad, imported that board into CAD, modeled a case around it, wrote and built the firmware with unit tests, and exported Gerbers, BOM, STEP and STL. You can open and edit every file yourself, in the built-in KiCad and CAD editors or anywhere else.
What it's not (yet):
• Dense boards can leave a few nets for you to finish, and parts without 3D models show up as placeholder boxes.
• macOS (Apple Silicon) only for now. The agent runs on your own ChatGPT account; Odem is free during the beta.
