Hey Product Hunt 👋
I built NYC Schools because every time a friend asked "is this school actually good, and will my kid get in," the honest answer required stitching together three separate NYC DOE and NYC Open Data files by hand.
What it does:
- Admissions odds by priority group — sibling, zoned, in-district - parsed straight from DOE's own MySchools offer data, not summarized secondhand
- Quality data with citations - test scores, attendance, and demographics per school and grade, each figure linked back to the exact NYC Open Data table and year
- Zoning, mapped honestly - enter an address and see your zoned elementary, middle, and high schools, plus which middle schools a given elementary actually feeds into
- Compare up to 4 schools side by side - zoning, SchoolDigger and Niche rank, test scores, attendance, enrollment
- Save & share - sign in with Google or Apple to bookmark schools and comparisons and pick up where you left off; every school and comparison also has its own shareable link, no account needed
It's independent and non-commercial - not affiliated with the NYC DOE - and every number traces back to a dated, public source.
We just shipped the iOS app, which brings the same zoning/quality/admissions data to your phone with saved schools and comparisons synced to your account.
Would love feedback, especially from NYC parents currently in the middle of the admissions process - what would make this more useful for you?
