You have 4 corner numbers which you use (you don’t have to use all 4 of them) in conjunction with +, - or * buttons to get to the middle 'target' number. There are three rounds (so three different 'target' numbers) per day.

Give it a go - it takes two minutes. I have found a high level of stickiness among players who organise themselves into a small group and compete weekly with their best 6 of 7 scores counting towards their weekly total. They share their results daily and one person keeps track and posts a leader board. Does that sound like a lot of work?

In case you are finding today's puzzle tricky - we've been using 2, 3 7, & 9 since Monday so typically by the time we get to the weekend, the puzzles are a little harder than at the beginning of the week but if you've been playing all week, your head is more 'in' those numbers.

💡 Bright idea

Ok, after playing for almost two weeks now, I have other ideas you could add: negative targets (easy to implement), and targets that requires going to negative numbers as a step to reach the positive target, for example with this week's numbers: 2, 5, 6, 7, a way to reach 24 could be ((( 5 - 7 ) * 2 ) * ( - 6 )), but that'd require allowing people to press the minus operator after they pressed the multiplication operator, which isn't possible at the moment; also, I wouldn't mind seeing the introduction of the division operator, for example, to reach today's last target: 36, we could do: ((( 7 + 5 ) * 6 ) / 2 ).

@emnificent Thanks Emilie, I'm delighted that you are still playing it. I hope you get a bit of a kick out of it. Thanks also for taking the time again to share your thoughts. I really appreciate it. I love the idea of negative targets and didn't even have that on the radar. At the moment I have it limited to targets from 0-99 and was thinking in an advanced setting I could make targets available >99, but negative targets would be a terrific addition - it's gone straight onto the list. With the idea of entering negative numbers, I might need to think about that a little further in terms of what it adds to the game and what it might impact during play. The exclusion/ removal of the divided by was a huge decision taken over a few months impacted by the following mainly: a) Divided by is less useful than +, - & * in this particular game. Not every whole number can be divided by evenly, but every number can take addition and multiplication. Minus is also very useful in this game, b) More people find division intimidating as an operator (largely because of the above - i.e. there may not be an answer that's possible when doing the calculation in your head) and I'm hoping by it's absence that my offering is more appealing in it's simplicity. c) You need to use your ability to divide anyway (so that skill is being scratched somewhat) when you are looking to mentally break down a target into it's factors as you are trying to find out how to solve the puzzle and d) lastly and more of a side effect, but it eliminates a button on the screen which contributes to a more simplified screen display. Does that sound reasonable enough to have removed the division operator? Thanks again for your thoughts and suggestions. I hope you have a nice evening/ day. Kind regards, David.

Because the 4 corner numbers stay the same for the whole week, you get a chance to really delve into those numbers and become more confident with them as the week goes on. If you know of anybody who doesn't consider themselves 'numbers people' I would be really keen for them to give it a try for a couple of weeks and see if they feel better or still the same after that. Hey @charlie_num ! Cool game to start of the day...if you can improve the onboarding UI a bit better and make the game UI also a little less 'robust' and more fluid, would be super-cool. You can see UI of 2048 as an example. Anyways, fun game to pass time on boring days and weekends! Congrats on the launch!

@hosseinyazdi Thanks. A mobile app is on the list - would certainly allow for other facets to the game that I can't currently offer. For the moment, people are downloading it as a bookmark to their mobile home screen. Then they get to play the same game today as everybody else.

The website appears a bit broken, but the game is still really fun, got all of the challenges right and on target (so 6 points), the last one was a bit more challenging, loved it!

@emnificent Thanks Emilie! Would be grateful if you could let me know what appeared broken for you and if you could let me know what device, make, and OS you were using when you played? Well done getting 6 points - that's full points for getting them all correct. There is a 'secondary game' where you get a bonus point per round for speed - so while 6/6 is full marks, it's also possible to get 9 points a day. thx for playing

@charlie_num Sure thing, sorry I didn't share earlier, was a bit in a hurry to finish a task, haha! But the advantage of waiting for more details is that now I've had time to test on multiple devices, and when I say that it appears a bit broken I'm exclusively talking about the CSS, the functionality of the game works as expected. Where it appears the most broken is on Firefox desktop, on Chromium desktop browsers it looks alright though there are still some visible minor issues, and it looks perfect on mobile (Firefox or Chromium alike). I'm on Linux and Android, but I doubt it has any influence since it's web-based, only the browsers are relevant. And thanks for letting me know about the secondary game, I don't think I'll have the brain power to get the 3 bonus points tomorrow since the games get harder as the week progresses, but that's good to know, haha!

@emnificent Many thanks Emilie, There is something funky alright with the CSS that I need to figure out. If I control -> scroll, it seems to be something to do with the screen resolution that can be fixed by zooming in or out. Some homework for me to do. Don't worry about the extra points - you'll get them next week if you start with the new numbers on Monday! Thanks again for your time and for playing
