Hi Product Hunt! I made NoteRescue after a long note of mine got typed over, and finding out that Apple Notes has no version history and only keeps deleted notes for about 30 days.
NoteRescue started as a Notes-only app. Version 2.0 is a "Rescue suite": the same idea for Contacts, Safari (tab groups, bookmarks, Reading List), Calendar, Reminders and Voice Memos. It reads your Time Machine and iPhone backups directly (read only), compares each item with what you have today, and sorts it into Missing, Changed or Same. Then you restore or export: notes into a new folder in Notes or as Markdown, HTML, PDF or text; contacts into Contacts; calendar events and Safari bookmarks as files those apps import; voice memos copied into Voice Memos.
Limits, so nobody wastes time: anything that was never in a backup can't come back, iCloud-only data isn't touched, and locked notes need their password. Reminders can't be put back automatically (macOS has no import for them), so you get Markdown or CSV. A contact restored from the Mac copy comes back without its photo and note.
The scan is free and shows what it finds, with one free proof item per app. Each app unlocks separately: Notes USD 24.99, Contacts 19.99, Calendar + Reminders 19.99, Safari 14.99, Voice Memos 14.99, or All apps 39.99. NoteRescue 1 owners upgrade to All apps for USD 15. Launch offer for Product Hunt: 30% off with code PH30 until 6 November. Everything runs locally, no account, no analytics. Full disclosure: I made it. Happy to answer anything about how Apple stores this data.
