What do you think? …

Tobias Petry
The Tech Stacks of startups are constantly evolving, but their database use is still the same as 20 years ago. No attention is paid to the database when using an ORM mapper or other abstractions. But that is a wasted opportunity because MySQL and PostgreSQL nowadays bring many features that make development easier. Learning database internals and secret techniques took me years, and I don't want you to take as long as me. I compiled some of my best tips in this free eBook to make gaining new database knowledge as fast and easy as possible. You should be able to read it in a single evening!

@tpetry your book helped me a lot with taking my skills on the next level, though most of the contents seem advanced for me. Congrats on reaching 100+ upvotes!

A great resource for anyone looking to take their database skills to the next level. The tips and techniques shared are incredibly valuable and will help any developer become more efficient and knowledgeable. 💪
Tobias Petry
@cemhurturk Thank you for the nice words. Databases look like complex beasts, but to be honest, developers don't need many of those features. But some are really easy and just knowing these "database patterns" indeed gets you to the next level.

Tobias has been sharing invaluable tips for a while now, I know - they've helped me on a number of occasions. This brilliant and amazingly FREE resource should be read by any developer building today. If you think you know, think again. Thanks Tobias.

Thanks @marc_hampson for the nice words. It's really easy to think you know databases when you've written a few queries. Luckily, this is usually sufficient, no one needs to be a specialist to use databases. But knowing just a few more "database patterns" makes you the database professional in your team.

Nice work, can’t wait to read it!
Tobias Petry
Do it Christof 😉 But also try to think where you can apply those tips. Most often a lot of code can be removed by simply using those database patterns.

Great work! thank you for sharing your time and knowledge! :)

I've learned from many people my knowledge many years ago. So now it is my time to share some knowledge too 😉

Thanks for sharing! Reading this resource is a very efficient way to improve your database skills. I have been following Tobias for a while now to benefit from the knowledge he shares on Twitter. This book delivers some very useful samples that you can immediately apply in your projects.
Tobias Petry
Thanks @ariovistus. That is exactly what I intended the book to be, very easy copy&paste samples for database patterns you may need very often but hadn't been aware of before.

I am following Tobias for quite a while on Twitter and his database tips for both PostgreSQL and MySQL have always been a valuable resource for learning about features of the DBMSs you didn't know existed. This resource bundles this wealth of knowledge in a concise manner without much fluff. 👏
Tobias Petry
"Without much fluff", thank you Oliver. I rewrote every tip at least two to three times until I finally reached the state it is now. Enough information to understand the topic, not too many details to be overwhelming and at best without any useless fluff. You won't find a description of my holidays like in recipe blogs, everything is straight to the point 😁
