Narro is a free, open-source Chrome extension that reads web pages and Kindle books aloud with natural AI voices. Listen with private, offline voices running in your browser, or bring your own OpenAI, ElevenLabs, or Gemini API key. No subscription or signup required.

Hey Product Hunt! 👋
I'm the solo developer behind Narro.
I wanted a read-aloud extension that could read from the Kindle Online Reader. The ones I tried used voices I did not enjoy listening to or had a UX that was too cluttered or annoying. A good enough product that I found was CastReader but it required a subscription and the UI was somewhat buggy. I wanted something that runs locally or with a preferred AI provider.
So, I decided to vibe code my own. In about 2 evenings I had a tool that was fairly usable and served my purpose. So I polished it up a bit, fixed some bugs and opensourced it.
It reads the page you’re on, highlights each sentence as it’s spoken, and works with most modern AI models. It supports both local and cloud hosted models - the local models run in-browser using WebGPU for improved performance.
Here are the main features of Narro:
- Private, on-device AI voices: Run models like Kokoro, Piper, and Kitten TTS directly in your browser. Your reading content never has to leave your computer.
- Bring your own AI provider: Use OpenAI, ElevenLabs, Gemini, or OpenRouter with your own API key.
- Kindle Cloud Reader support: Narro can recognise text from the Kindle pages you have open, read it aloud, and automatically turn pages.
- Read along: Sentence highlighting, automatic scrolling, and remembering where you stopped.
- Completely open source: MIT licensed, with no accounts or subscription fees.
I am looking forward to see what the community thinks about this tool.
