No blank page. Just one question about the day you actually had. Most journal apps hand you an empty screen. Nanari opens with a single question shaped by your day: a photo from this afternoon, an event on your calendar, a thread of your life still moving. You speak or type. Nanari follows for two or three quiet beats, then distills what you said into one clean entry you can keep. That is the whole loop. Small on purpose. Open Today. A single question is waiting, warm and specific to your day.

Hello,
I'm DongYoon Lee, and I made Nanari because I could never keep a journal.
Every attempt went the same way. I’d open the app at night, see the blank page, and freeze. Something definitely happened that day, but deciding what mattered and how to start was too much at 11pm. A few days later I’d delete it. I did that more times than I want to admit.
So I flipped it. Nanari asks first. It looks at your photos, your calendar, and things you mentioned earlier in the week, and asks one question about the day you actually had. You answer out loud (or type), it follows up once or twice, and then it writes the entry in your words. Two minutes, then it stops. It never turns into a chat.
The part I’m proudest of is what happens after. Nobody rereads a journal, so Nanari does the returning for you. A quiet recap every Sunday, a monthly look back, threads that notice the people and places you keep coming back to, and old entries that resurface when today rhymes with them. No streaks, no scores, no guilt when you skip a week.
Since it’s a journal, privacy was the first design decision, not the last. Entries live on your phone and your iCloud. Private mode keeps any entry off the AI path entirely. Nothing is sold or used for training. It’s a paid app with a free trial, so you pay with money, not your data.
It’s iPhone only for now, works in eight languages, and exports to JSON, Markdown, or PDF anytime.
I’d love to know one thing from you. If you’ve tried journaling before, what made you stop? I’m building the next version around those answers.
Thanks for taking a look 🙏
