One page. Every day starts unnamed. The first name of the day is free: type it, pick a colour and emoji, and the headline becomes "Today is ___ Day". After that anyone can take the day over from $2 and outbid by a dollar until midnight UTC, when the day is sealed into the archive. Outbid? Raise your claim and pay only the difference. Gift a day (birthdays, launches, inside jokes) with a certificate they keep. Names are screened automatically. Streamers get a free OBS overlay.
Hi Product Hunt. I built Name the Day because I got annoyed that someone, somewhere, decides it's National Donut Day and the rest of us just go along with it.
So: one page. Every day starts unnamed. Pay $2 and the headline becomes "Today is ___ Day" in your colour and emoji. Anyone can outbid you for a dollar more. At midnight UTC the day is sealed into the archive with everyone who bid, and it's done.
Honest status: it launched yesterday. Yesterday was "Launch Day" because I paid the $2 myself, and today is still nobody's Day as I write this. Which means the first person here to pay $2 owns Product Hunt launch day. That feels right.
What it's good for: birthdays (there's a gift flow: sign it, add their email, they get a certificate), launch days, inside jokes, and streamers (free OBS overlay at nametheday.lol/overlay that flashes when the day changes hands).
What it's not: gambling. No chance, no prize, no refunds. You're buying a day.
I'll be here all day. Weird day names welcome.

Update, a few hours in: the first name of every day is now free. No card, no payment. Type a name, pick a colour, and the page is yours until someone pays $2 to take it over. One free name per person per day, links stay paid-only, moderation unchanged.
Why: an empty headline is the worst possible ad for a headline you can buy. The free name fills it; the $2 takeover is where the game starts.
Today is still unnamed as I post this, so the free one is up for grabs right now.
