Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Prayas, and I built Murmurly.
I wanted to dictate instead of type: Slack replies, emails, notes, commit messages. But most dictation apps I tried send your voice to their servers to transcribe it. For something I'd use all day, on everything I write, that didn't sit right with me.
So I built the dictation app I wanted:
Hold a key, talk, let go. Clean, punctuated text lands at your cursor in whatever app you're in: Mail, Slack, Notes, Terminal, your browser.
Private by default.
• Speech is transcribed on your Mac
• Cleanup runs on-device with Apple Intelligence by default
• Audio is never stored
• Your transcripts never reach our servers. The account only keeps usage counts, never what you said.
Powerful when you want it.
• Bring your own AI: plug in Claude, GPT, Gemini, Groq or any OpenAI-compatible model with your own key for a sharper polish
• A dictionary for the names it mishears (Kubernetes, Postgres, your teammates' names)
• Snippets that expand a short phrase into full text
• Per-app styles: casual in Slack, formal in Mail
It's free to dictate.
What I'd love feedback on:
1. How does transcription accuracy hold up with your accent and vocabulary?
2. Is the default shortcut (⌘⌥S) comfortable, or would you rather use fn or something else?
3. Did anything in the first-run setup (mic, Accessibility permission) confuse you?
4. What would make you switch from the dictation tool you use today?
I'm here all day answering questions. Tell me what breaks! 🙏
