I’m Byant, the creator of Motif.
I built Motif because I was frustrated with modern bookmarking and note-taking tools. It felt like every app forced me to sign up for an account, upload my personal notes to their cloud servers, and deal with loading spinners every time my connection lagged. I just wanted a fast, private place to save text snippets, links, and images while browsing.
So, I decided to build a local-first alternative.
Motif is designed from the ground up to respect your data. Everything you save is kept securely on your own device using your browser's IndexedDB. Because there's no server roundtrip, search is instant, page loads are zero-latency, and it works 100% offline.
To make it a real workspace, I also built dedicated companion extensions for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge so you can clip text highlights, links, and images with a single click.
