The inspiration for Moonshot was to create a trivia game where you don't get penalized just because you don't know an exact, hyper-specific number off the top of your head. I wanted to reward smart approximations and logical deductions. Built with a clean, minimalist web interface, the game serves up five surprising quantities from all over the map every single day.

Hey Product Hunt community! 👋
I am excited to share Moonshot, a daily trivia game designed specifically for curious minds who love estimating, thinking in ranges, and testing their intuition rather than relying on perfect recall.
How it was built & The Idea
The inspiration for Moonshot was to create a trivia game where you don't get penalized just because you don't know an exact, hyper-specific number off the top of your head. I wanted to reward smart approximations and logical deductions. Built with a clean, minimalist web interface, the game serves up five surprising quantities from all over the map every single day. There are no niche categories to memorize and no trick questions—just fascinating facts that are genuinely worth guessing.
Our Philosophy on Scoring: Order of Magnitude
The core engine of Moonshot is its unique logarithmic scoring system, which shifts the focus from binary "right or wrong" answers to relative precision:
The Perfect Shot: An exact guess earns you the maximum 100 points per question (for a total daily maximum of 500).
The Scale: As your guess moves away from the true answer, your score drops proportionally based on scale, not just flat distance.
The Math: If your guess is 10 times too high or too low, you still walk away with a solid ~64 points. Even if you are 100 times off, you get 28 points. It's only when you are 1,000 times off that you completely miss the mark and score a 0.
It’s a game of numerical intuition. It resets every day with five fresh questions, giving you a brand-new chance to see just how close you can get to the moon.
Check it out, try a no-pressure practice question, and let me know your thoughts (and your scores!) in the comments below.
