MoodSailor is a free marine navigation app for iOS and Android, in active development at version 0.4.0. It brings buoys, lighthouses, marks and live AIS ships onto the horizon through your phone’s camera in augmented reality, alongside offline charts, a logbook that records weather and tides on every point, route planning, and GPX, KML, CSV and GeoJSON import/export. In Norway, the US, Canada, Iceland, Spain and Portugal, it also overlays each country’s own free official hydrographic charts as a reference layer; Dutch official charts cover inland waterways, and French buoyage follows SHOM. Its newest feature, in early-access beta, connects the app to the boat’s own network, a Signal K server or an NMEA 0183 / NMEA 2000 gateway, and runs an arrangeable cockpit of instrument cards on the boat’s own GPS, heading, depth, wind, speed and water temperature. It runs in 24 languages with no account, no ads and no subscription, and is built privacy-first: contributions to its optional, opt-in open training dataset are anonymous and have any people removed before anything leaves the device. MoodSailor’s aim is to make trustworthy sea recognition and navigation tools free for everyone.
