What inspired you to build this? Honestly? My own bad habits. If you know me, you know I have never been great with money. But earlier this year I made a decision to stop ignoring my finances and actually do something about it. Budgeting kept coming up as the answer, so I committed to trying it. What problem were you trying to solve? The tools available let me down in two ways. The templates I found were either too generic to reflect how I actually spend, or so bloated with categories and formulas that setting them up felt like a job. The apps were no better. Most of them required me to connect my bank account or log in constantly just to stay on top of things. I wanted something private, simple, and actually usable. So I built MoniePlan. How did your approach evolve? I started by building a template just for myself. When it actually worked and I stuck with it longer than I had stuck with anything else, I realised the gap was real. I went back and stripped everything down to what genuinely matters: knowing where your money is going before the month runs away from you. No bank connections. No overwhelm. Just a clean, focused budgeting tool built for real people, not finance enthusiasts.
