Mindsets

Marissa here, Mindsets founder. My team and I created Mindsets to level the playing field and teach math through entrepreneurship. To learn what opportunity looks like, how it is designed & how the math works across engaging topics and student led interests in sport, art, business, budgeting, startups, the environment, data science, engineering and more. For example, in the Where to Work Challenge-Tech Edition, students decide on a career and receive 2 job offers - one from Google and one from Amazon. Which one should they choose? To help make a decision, they create graphs plotting average pay rises at each company using linear equations and they analyze the slope of the graph. They also look beyond the numbers and explain their reasoning - which company do I prefer? What factors matter ? Do I want to have a long term career with one company or not? And - what would mom say? Students work in pairs or teams collaboratively discussing the questions and answers, they view class poll results and their responses helps teachers to assess how students are thinking and communicating. Students can then extend their learning through a hands on project. Discover and explore a new world in each Challenge! Mindsets challenges students in a way that gets them excited about Math and Science and shows them how to use these skills in the real world.
