Most workflow documentation tools store your screenshots in their cloud, require an account, and charge you past the free tier. Mimik doesn't. Everything runs locally in your browser. No sign-up, no telemetry, no servers. Just install, record, and export as Markdown, PDF, HTML, or GIF. Open source, free forever, and it works offline. Bring your own AI key if you want smart descriptions. Your workflows, your machine, full stop.

Hey Product Hunt 👋
We're the team at westpoint.io. Mimik started as a small tool we built for ourselves, and we kept reaching for it, so we figured we'd share.
Why we built it
We kept writing the same step-by-step doc over and over. New hire joins, someone records a Loom. Customer asks how to do X, someone writes it up again in Notion. Two weeks later the UI shifts, the screenshots are stale, and we do it again.
What Mimik does
You hit Record, click through a workflow once, and get an editable guide with one annotated screenshot per step. Edit it in the side panel, export to HTML, PDF, or Markdown, or hand it to a teammate and have them walk through it on the live page with Guide Me mode.
Who it's for
Anyone tired of re-recording the same Loom: support, onboarding, QA, customer success, internal docs. Especially useful if your workflows have things in them that shouldn't end up on a third-party server, since nothing leaves your browser.
A few notes
🔒 Local-first. No backend, no account, no telemetry. Guides live in IndexedDB. 🧠 AI is optional, BYO key. OpenAI or Anthropic. Off by default. 🌍 Same extension on Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. 🪪 MIT licensed. Code on GitHub.
It's free and still a v1. We'd love to hear what you think.
