I built Merit Badgy because the Scouts in our area needed a quick way to find merit badge classes so they could fulfill requirements on their Scouting journey.
I have to be honest, finding a class was harder than it should’ve been. A Scout would come up at a Sunday meeting ready to start Personal Management, and the hunt would begin. One class was buried in a council PDF, another was posted in a Facebook group weeks ago, and a third was in an email that had been forwarded three times. By the time we found the registration link, it had closed. Parents were going through the same thing at the kitchen table with a dozen browser tabs open, trying to figure out which badges were Eagle-required and whether anything was close to home. Yes, we have in-house counselors for some merit badges but not all and it is great to have classes where a Scout can experience their learning.
The truth is, Scouts weren’t the only ones who needed help. There were plenty of people in our community who wanted to become merit badge counselors, but the application made it hard to understand exactly what was needed and which merit badges they’d want to teach.
So I built one place for all of it. Merit Badgy gathers in-person, virtual and hybrid classes from councils, troops and locations like museums, parks, and businesses into one searchable list. You can filter by date, distance or format, and you can see what’s coming up on a list, calendar or map. When you find the right class, you register directly with the organizer. It’s free, and you don’t need an account. Some of the best classes happen where the subject lives, like Astronomy under a planetarium dome or Canoeing on the lake at camp, and those experiences deserve to be found. For future counselors, our Become a Counselor guide walks you through the details, helps you discover badges that fit your interests and creates a ready-to-submit PDF packet for your council.
Our counselors have so much to share from their passions and careers, and any one of them could be the person who inspires a Scout to discover something new.
Lastly, I’d love your feedback. Merit Badgy is built by Scouting volunteers, and it gets better every time someone tells us what’s working and what isn’t. If a class is missing, something looks out of date, or you have an idea that would make it easier for your Scout, Troop or Council, send a note to hello@meritbadgy.com. I read every one.
Thanks for being part of it!
