As a product manager at Medicodio AI, my job has been to sit between two worlds: coding teams drowning in documentation, and engineers who could build almost anything but needed to know what actually mattered.
What I heard from coders, billing leads, and compliance teams was remarkably consistent. Coding was slow, subjective, and hard to audit. Two experienced coders could look at the same chart and land on different codes. Backlogs grew, denials piled up, and nobody had a clear view of where the errors were coming from.
So we built Medicodio AI to turn clinical documentation into ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS, and modifier predictions that coders can trust, review, and override with full transparency. The goal was never to replace the coder. It was to give them a first pass that's fast, explainable, and consistent, so their expertise goes toward judgment calls instead of repetitive lookups.
The hardest product decisions weren't about the model. They were about the workflow: how much to show, when to defer to the human, how to fit into the EHRs and billing systems teams already live in, and how to make the same product work for a cardiology group and a multi-specialty hospital network.
Every feature on the roadmap has come from a real conversation with a coding team. That's the part of this role I've enjoyed most.
