The technical challenge was integrating multiple data sources: - OpenStreetMap for business locations and details - French government datasets for administrative boundaries - Real-time geocoding and reverse geocoding - Automated data validation and cleaning The biggest hurdle was data quality. French business data can be inconsistent, with businesses changing names, addresses, or closing without updates. I built automated systems to detect and flag outdated information. The site uses Django with a custom caching system to handle the large dataset efficiently. The search functionality uses PostgreSQL full-text search with custom ranking algorithms to prioritize the most relevant results. I'm particularly proud of the geolocation feature - it can automatically detect your location and show you the nearest commune with all its local services. This was tricky to implement accurately across different mobile browsers. The project is completely self-funded and I'm committed to keeping it free. My goal is to make local information as accessible as possible for everyone in France.
