This not-for-profit project has an outstanding potential to be nobel prize worthy.
It is yet another example of the disruptive nature of the digital age. It is just played on the kingdom of information flow and capitalism: The stock market.
As individuals, we stand a very small chance to beat algotrading or understand exactly whit whom we should entrust our savings. And unless you're Warren Buffet, you can't really outperform the market index consistently.
MarketGuru dynamically uses each individual investor as one node in a large web. The deal is dead simple. I make my choices and ideas transparent (others get to see my holdings in %, not $ - so it makes it easier for me to share).
I get notified about views and actions of others - only if we hold the same stock or if I am a follower. So I you get an immediate value here. But this is just half of the story. Because in doing so, I am actually taking part of a much larger plan:
I help build the MG25, which happens to be the first crowdsourced index on earth.
To me, this makes much more sense than investing in a list of stocks based on market cap (like the S&P / NASDAQ composite).
With a community small enough to fit in an Irish bar, MG25 has managed to perform 8% YTD while the the NASDAQ, S&P and Dow did 5%, 1.5% and 3/4% respectively. It doesn't mean a lot yet, still - this is fascinating!!
