Geocoding, routing, and MCP also available to build geospatial apps with. Ask for cafes, buildings, or streets and get GeoJSON, opening hours, and walk or bike routes. Free tier. Hey Product Hunt. I am Joel. I built MapLark because I needed it.
I was making Urban Sun Finder: pubs and cafes still in the sun in Nordic winter. That needs real building footprints and heights. Vector tiles clip at tile edges and drop the tags. Public Overpass is fine for a prototype, then it times out the moment you treat it like a product.
I did not want to run my own Overpass box, and I did not want a vendor category tree. So I imported the planet into PostGIS (about 1.5 TB), kept OSM tags as OSM tags, and put an HTTP API in front. Bbox or radius, amenity=cafe or building=yes, GeoJSON back.
Then I added places, opening hours, and walk or bike routes on the real street network. You choose what to ask for. Code computes every metre.
People talk to Claude and Cursor as if those models can see a city. They invent streets. MapLark now has an MCP server so an agent can look a place up, check if it is open, and walk the network.
