Welcome to MapGPT: the AI tour guide that brings you closer to culture, history, and fun activities around you.
MapGPT is unique because it aims to fill a unique use case that current map applications do not currently fulfill - to connect you deeper with your environment.
The MapGPT beta offers a glimpse into what it could look like to leverage AI with your location. Instead of building an app that keeps you tied to the phone, we want to get you out in the world, experiencing it.
This idea was brought forth from the OpenAI Developer Ambassadors. The team was created about 3 years ago when OpenAI launched the GPT-3 API beta. At the time, LLMs were not easy to use and not well understood. OpenAI was at an earlier stage and was looking for ways to engage a developer community to experiment with building on LLMs. Our team meets every week and still engages with the community to this day.
Genuinely one of the coolest things we've built. MapGPT is super insightful, especially in urban areas. I live in NYC and I've learned so many things about my local neighborhood that I now think about quite a bit! History is the present, in a way!
