Magpie is a quiet side-panel collector for images, screenshots, links & snippets — organized into boards, saved as files on your machine, synced across devices if you choose.

The decision to save everything as local files rather than locking it into a proprietary cloud is genuinely thoughtful. Gives Magpie real longevity, and the optional sync feels like the right kind of restraint.
Love how this stays local and doesn't lock my stuff in some cloud. One thing that would make it stick for me: a quick way to add a note or tag when I drop something into a board, even just a keyboard shortcut popup before saving. Would make searching through boards way faster later on.
Love the local-first vibe, it's exactly how a collector should feel. One thing I'd love: a quick keyboard shortcut to clip and auto-tag based on the active window or URL, so I don't have to manually sort everything later.
Loving how the boards live as plain folders on disk, makes me feel way more in control than yet another cloud-only locker. The side panel just stays out of the way until I need it.
Love that everything saves as plain files locally first, with sync as opt-in instead of forced. Feels like the team actually thought through what people who collect references all day actually need.
