Hey Product Hunters! 🙌🏻 I’m Eugene, the Head of Mobile at Magiscan Inc. Here at MagiScan, we’ve developed a groundbreaking mobile application that changes the way you create digital twins (3D models) of real-world objects, living beings, and environments using just your smartphone or tablet 📱 In 2022, our team embarked on the ambitious journey of building a metaverse (New Layer). However, we quickly realized that achieving critical user mass for organic/viral growth was a challenge. Hence, we pivoted to creating a comprehensive ecosystem of products that would eventually integrate into our metaverse, with MagiScan leading the way as our cornerstone product 🎯 The inspiration for MagiScan struck in a moment of pure magic, sparked by my 5-year-old daughter's innocent curiosity. She noticed that her daddy had been up all night and was busily fussing over her clay piggy bank mouse in the morning. So she asked to try it herself. My surprise was immeasurable when I saw that a child with no experience in using mobile applications intuitively understood what to do: walk around the object filling all the segments - and in 2 minutes, her piggy bank was on the phone! ✨ "Dad, is this magic?", she asked. This allowed me to see the magic in the process of transferring objects from the real world to the virtual. We discussed this with colleagues and eventually launched the application inspired by this sense of wonder: MagiScan 💡 Initially, we considered naming the app "Teleport," emphasizing its ability to seamlessly transfer objects from the real world to the digital realm without any special hardware requirements like Lidar. By that time, I had already been experimenting with photogrammetry, especially for 3D printing. It was a complex user experience: you had to take pictures, transfer them to a PC (with a GPU) though 😞 This experience helped understand that to create a simple 3D model, only 15-50 shots around the object are necessary. And how can you ensure that by scanning the object, you've covered all 360 degrees without calculating the object's location? We discussed it with Max (our CEO), and the idea to use a compass emerged for both of us 🧭 In a couple of evenings, a prototype was implemented. I ran a server on my laptop, and the application was made using Flutter (a wonderful tool for prototyping). And here we were already conducting full-fledged tests. The convenience and speed were really pleasing🔥 We didn't stop at simple photogrammetry and continued working on improving 3D scanning capabilities. As we progressed, we expanded MagiScan's capabilities, introducing features like: 📍Lidar Scanning: Direct scanning using Lidar technology to create detailed 3D models. 📍Hybrid Mode: A combination of photogrammetry and Lidar for improved scanning providing higher quality and accuracy of models. 📍Manual Mode: A mode for professional users allowing manual scanning without automatic use of the compass for finer tuning. 📍Upload Photo: The ability to create 3D models from previously taken photos, including shots taken with professional cameras and drones. 📍PointCloud: A mode allowing scanning of the space and environment around the user, creating point clouds. 📍Room Plan: Creating schematic plans of premises and performing measurements. 📍Minecraft Mode: A unique feature that allows creating 3D models for subsequent import of structures into the game Minecraft. 📍We are now diligently working on NERF and Gaussian Splatting. With MagiScan, we've empowered users to effortlessly create virtual objects from real items, ready to be seamlessly integrated into any metaverse or game. Our next mission?
