👋 Howdy Product Hunt, this is my first ever PH launch 🤘 🤖 MacGaiver is an AI-powered macOS assistant that answers your questions about any application using computer vision. No need to leave your current window when you want help, simply press a keyboard shortcut, ask your question, and get the answers in context. 🏃 There when you need it. MacGaiver runs in the background, and using it is real easy: ⌨️ Press a keyboard shortcut to activate MacGaiver 🗣️ Ask a question about the application you have open, using voice or keyboard ℹ️ Get an the answer in context, without leaving your active application Behind the scenes, MacGaiver takes a screenshot of your active application when you press the keyboard shortcut, and sends that off together with your question to OpenAI GPT-V (Vision). It’s that simple. 🆓 The app is free, you only pay for the OpenAI API calls using your own API key. You do need to create an account on www.macgaiver.app, which is just how I keep track of how many people tried the app (no worries, I have no interest in sending you emails). ❓I’m hoping MacGaiver can help you. I built MacGaiver because I wanted it myself, and it has been really useful for random challenges in my day-to-day life in front of the computer, and I’m hoping others may find it useful as well. I have ideas of things I’d like to add or improve, but I’d like to hear what you think. What would you need for this app to stay installed, open, and in use? Thanks for stopping by! Some background to MacGaiver and myself, it’s ok to stop reading here :) 🛠️ I’m not really a developer, but like to learn new things and channel my creativity into code, so this is a certified scrappy product. I built the first version of MacGaiver in 5 hours, polished it a bit, open sourced it as my first ever public GH repo, and shared it on Hacker News. Many asked if I could make it into an app, and I thought “why not? that could be fun!” Taking the OS project the last 20% really took 80% of the time, there were so many new things I had to learn. But here it is – MacGaiver. My code is functional, not efficient, and my design skills are.. well.. let's just say the onboarding and UI could be improved :) Much of this journey was about taking my first solo project from 0 to 1, I hope you enjoy the product as much as I enjoyed building it! ❤️

This is really cool! Very clever use of the OpenAI API. What tech stack is it built on?
Ralf Elfving
@evsimoni Thanks! It's built using NodeJS/Electron, with some Gadget.dev sprinkled in for the account and update checking.
