The Tragedy of Macbeth is considered one of Shakespeare's darkest and most powerful works. Set in Scotland, the play illustrates the damaging physical and psychological effects of political ambition on those who seek power for its own sake. It's his shortest tragedy, so you could probably read it in an afternoon.

Do I need to get it if I have much of the play memorized? Love it though. 6th grade class put it on. I played Banquo. "O, treachery! Fly, good Fleance, fly, fly, fly! Thou mayst revenge. O slave!"

"Upvote" could have been a Shakespearean neologism so I'll upvote Macbeth. Meanwhile for Macbeth fans in NYC: see "Sleep No More", a very loosely based "immersive theatre" adaptation.

This might be the only Shakespearean play that I enjoyed reading, and I still remember some quotes in vivid detail from this short work (i.e "Where shall we meet? Upon the heath. There to meet with Macbeth") Well worth your time if you enjoy beautiful prose and drama.
