What's up Product Hunters, I'm @psd, technical founder and musician, excited to share Lyrist with you for my first ever PH launch! Shoutout to @Kevin for hunting 🙏. Also, Peyt rhymes with heat. 🎵 I built Lyrist to make songwriting more convenient. As a rapper, I would look for instrumentals on YouTube, open a notes app, and write to the beat. I would have to switch back and forth between applications to rewind, fast forward, pause, and replay as I made progress composing a verse. If I wanted to use words unfamiliar to my vocabulary, I opened a rhyming dictionary or thesaurus to find word associations. Once finished, I would share my lyrics and the YouTube link with collaborators via email or a file sharing app. Nowadays, I only need one tool for all of this. I plan to investigate adding Spotify next. 📝 Text Editor After making a selection from search results, it's time to write. You can switch between edit and view modes which I plan to make more intuitive. 🏛️ My Library All your text gets saved automatically and sorted by most recent updates. I plan to investigate sorting / filtering options, favoriting, and folders. 💡 Word Finder Learn a word's rhymes, synonyms, and antonyms. I plan to investigate presenting this feature directly from the editor on a word selection. ⏲️ Writer's Block Inspired by a video about curing this phenomenon experienced by creatives everywhere, give yourself permission to write nonsense. The timer forces you to write without stopping for a configurable number of minutes. 🌟 Additional use cases You can translate songs for karaoke nights. Even if you're not musically inclined, you can take notes for anything you listen to.
