Hey PH, I’m Anna, founder of LocalPay. I’m Vietnamese, but last 2 years my partner and I were traveling around Asia, and payments were a headache basically everywhere. He didn’t have a local bank account, so he was always stuck: endless ATM withdrawals, crazy fees, random places that only accept QR payments — and those only work if you have a local account. In Indonesia, he managed to open an account, but it took a fat deposit, paperwork, and a lot of trips to the bank. Honestly, it felt more like getting a visa than opening a bank account. When we got to Vietnam, I thought at least I’d be fine as a local. Nope. No citizen card = = no QR payments for me either. Turns out I had even fewer options than my partner, as a “foreigner in my own country.” So, we started building LocalPay — something that actually lets people pay like locals, without having to beg for a bank account. We launched our beta in May, mostly for friends and family while we sorted out all the legal stuff. Went public just three weeks ago. Now we’re starting to see real people find us on their own.
