Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm the solo maker behind LiuRen Oracle.
Earlier this year I lost my job — so I spent the summer building something I'd always wished existed: a home on the internet for a 1,000-year-old Chinese oracle.
The inspiration is personal. My grandmother read fortunes with her hands using Xiao Liu Ren — three numbers, six palaces, and she could read your past, present, and future in seconds. Outside China, almost no one has heard of it. Everyone knows the I Ching; this is its faster, lesser-known cousin.
The problem I wanted to solve: wisdom like this is locked behind language and old texts. And most "fortune-telling" apps out there are random generators wearing a mystical costume. I wanted the real thing — the authentic algorithm — yet understandable to a complete beginner.
So I built LiuRen Oracle: a faithful implementation of the traditional six-palace engine (no fake randomness), wrapped in a modern bilingual web app, with AI-written interpretations that translate every reading into plain English. Three numbers, one question, ten seconds.
How my approach evolved: I started out thinking I was building a divination app. Halfway through, I realized I was building a bridge — between a 1,000-year-old oral tradition and people who will never read the old texts. That shifted everything toward two obsessions: fidelity and clarity. And the first 3 readings are free, because in my family this knowledge was always shared, never sold.
I'd love your feedback — especially from anyone who has brought a traditional practice online. How do you balance authenticity with accessibility?
