I built Ligature because I wanted a calm place to write without giving up control of my files.
It’s a free, local-first app for writing, thinking, and organizing ideas. Start without an account, work offline, and keep your library on your own computer.
A few things you can do:
Organize documents with folders, labels, and backlinks.
Shape your writing with blocks and tasks, and leave notes beside specific passages.
Settle into focus mode when you want fewer distractions.
Bring your own AI provider or local model—or leave AI off entirely.
Connect Claude or Codex through MCP to find, read, create, and append to documents, with your permission.
Add optional, end-to-end encrypted Sync to keep your library available across devices.
Ligature is available for macOS, with an iOS beta available by request. The full local editor is free; Sync is optional and paid.
I’d love for you to try it with a real piece of writing. What’s the first thing that gets in your way?
Thanks for taking a look. I’ll be here to answer questions and hear what you think.
