LibreAI is a showcase of 2,135 open-source AI projects, each one verified against GitHub and explained in plain language across 17 categories — AI agents, local LLMs, self-hosted tools, image, audio, video and more. Over a thousand projects come with a step-by-step install guide derived from the project's own README, so you can go from "interesting" to "running on my machine" without spelunking through raw documentation. Plus an open statistics page for the whole catalogue.

Hi Product Hunt — LibreAI started as my own bookmarks problem. I kept finding remarkable open-source AI projects — a local LLM runner here, a self-hosted voice tool there — and losing them again in a pile of tabs. GitHub search tells you what exists; it doesn't tell you what a project is *for*, whether it's alive, or how a normal person installs it. So I built the catalogue I wanted: 2,135 projects, every one checked against its GitHub repo, organised into 17 categories, and written up in plain English. 1,126 of them carry a full install guide built from the project's own README. The rest are flagged as hidden gems — smaller projects that deserve a look before the big names swallow the category. Two things I believe about this space: open-source AI is moving faster than any single company, and discovery is now the bottleneck, not capability. If you run anything self-hosted or local, I'd genuinely like to know what I've missed — the catalogue grows every week, and reader suggestions are a real part of how it grows.
