Hey Product Hunt, I’m the maker of Legible.
If you’ve ever sent a PDF to a Kindle, you know how it goes: you get the whole page shrunk down, tiny text, no titles, and anything in two columns comes out scrambled. Course notes and scanned books are the worst.
Legible reads the PDF and rebuilds it as a real Kindle book. It keeps headings, bold, indents and lists, builds a chapter index even when the PDF has none, and lets the text reflow to the font size and screen you pick. It also handles two-column notes, rejoins words the PDF split with hyphens, and runs OCR on scanned photocopies. Charts, tables and formulas stay in place as sharp images. Comics and manga work too (CBZ/CBR): it trims margins, splits double pages and keeps right-to-left reading for manga.
You get an AZW3 that a Kindle opens directly, or an EPUB for Kobo and other readers.
You can drop in a PDF and see the finished book before downloading anything, no account needed. Downloading just asks for your email, and after the trial books there’s an unlimited plan for $5/month.
It’s not perfect yet: a formula in the middle of a line in a scanned file can still go wrong, which is why you can check the result on screen first.
I’d love to hear which PDFs give you the most trouble on your e-reader.
