I spent months searching for the most interesting writers that I could find. I originally was just looking for women in startups, or who wrote about women in tech. As the book evolved, it became more intersectional, and more about the experience of not fitting into a stereotype. (I evolved too, along with the book.) Also, tech culture was changing rapidly even as I was working on the book. The inclusion of gaming writer Leigh Alexander (who was one of our later additions) reflected my realization that GamerGate was part of this discussion too.
Thanks @karthik! It looks like Jekudo is going to keep me super busy this fall, which is good. But I already have early collaborators in place for a new book on information security, so that may be the thing that I do instead of having a more typical personal life. I can work on my startup and make software with this team almost all day but it's nice to still have some friendships and relationships outside of that. That's part of what the writing does for me right now. Lean Out was this wonderful way to connect with these really interesting people, and build something together. Looks like I'll be starting that back up but with infosec.
