Latch reads your MacBook's hinge angle. Animations follow the lid as it moves, so stop halfway and they stop too. Actions mute, dim or run any Shortcut at an angle you choose, and put things back when the lid comes up. Nothing leaves your Mac.

Hi everyone, I'm Mustafa. I built Latch after finding out that recent MacBooks have a sensor that reports the lid's angle in degrees, and nothing on macOS uses it.
Latch does two things with it:
• Animations that follow the lid. Close it halfway and the animation stops halfway. There are eight: Fade, Iris, Shutter, CRT, Frost, Genie, Drain and Duo. All free.
• Actions at an angle. Mute as the lid dips past 45°, dim the screen, or run any Shortcut. When the lid comes back up, Latch puts back whatever it changed. Rules can depend on being docked, being on power, or the time of day.
There's also a private Journal of when your lid opened and closed, and App Intents, so Shortcuts, Raycast or Keyboard Maestro can read the angle.
Some honest notes:
– Lid tracking and Actions need a recent Apple silicon MacBook. On other MacBooks, the animations still play on open and close, and the Journal works fully.
– Fade, Iris, Shutter and Frost need no permissions. CRT, Genie, Drain and Duo ask for Screen Recording so they can grab one still of your screen. Without it, they fall back to a frosted version.
– The app has no network code. Nothing leaves your Mac.
– Animations are free for good. Latch Pro is $2.99 once, with no subscription. It adds more rules, Shortcuts and conditions.
