Hey Product Hunt 👋 I'm Scott, the solo developer behind LaoTzu Writer Studio. I'd always dabbled in programming. Until my wife gave me a reason to get serious. She wanted to write a novel. She'd wanted to for years. She tried Scrivener. She tried Plottr. She tried others. Every one either overwhelmed her or got in the way. She'd open the app, stare at it, and close it without writing a word. She had the story. She had the discipline. What she was missing was a tool that got out of the way. So I built one. My wife is Chinese and a Daoist at heart. She has always loved Laozi's philosophy. The idea that the wisest path is the one that doesn't force things. That became the design principle. Strip away everything that isn't essential. Make every interaction as intuitive as possible. No overwhelm, no steep learning curve. Just the writer and the page. Along the way I got obsessed with a harder problem: what if the app actually understood your story? Not just the words, but the relationships, the timelines, the cause and effect, what each character knows and when they learned it. I built an analysis engine called Confucius that constructs a living model of your narrative as you write. It powers the contradiction detection, the character tracking, the structural visualization. It reads your manuscript the way a careful editor would. Quietly, in the background, watching for the things writers miss when they're deep in the work. My wife doesn't know any of that's happening. She just writes. Which is exactly the point. Three years later, she opens it every day. She's writing her novel. That's the only proof of concept I needed.
